Questo lavoro è stato ispirato dal libro di Edgar Lee Masters ‘The Spoon River Anthology’, 1915 (Antologia di Spoon River, edito da Einaudi). Si tratta di una serie di ritratti realizzati con doppia esposizione in camera. Ho rifotografato vecchie fotografie di autori e soggetti sconosciuti fondendoli con un’immagine del presente. E’ un lavoro sulla memoria, tra ciò che rimane e ciò che va irrimediabilmente perduto. Il ricordo e l’oblio. Così come i personaggi di Masters, le persone ritratte sembrano avere ancora qualcosa da dire.

Le frasi riportate accanto alle fotografie sono state estrapolate dal libro di Masters (traduzione di Fernanda Pivano).

This work was inspired by Edgar Lee Masters' book 'The Spoon River Anthology'. This is a series of portraits made with double exposure in the camera. I rephotographed old photographs of unknown authors and subjects, fusing them with an image of the present.

It is a work on memory, between what remains and what is irremediably lost. Memory and oblivion. Just like Masters' characters, the people portrayed still seem to have something to say.

The sentences shown next to the photographs were extrapolated from Masters' book.
